A Tea Party!

IMG_6421My little girl turned one last Wednesday and this past Sunday we celebrated her birthday with a little Tea Party. Every detail of the party was a great DIY project. That meant lots of time management on my end to get it done, practice definitely makes perfect with these types of events. IMG_6452 12.59.40 PMThe background for the sweet table (minus the fabrics and scrapbook paper) was all made out of dollar store supplies. The burlap banner is a new item I came across recently at the dollar store and have used it for several different craft projects. The dollies come in a pack of 100 and well, you can never have too many of those! The flowers on the bottom bunting another fabulous dollar store find! The boxes that the tiered stands are on and the easel with the canvas board, also purchases from the amazing dollar store.  IMG_6426A great way to add some style to a cake is to add flowers, note though, lots of flowers are not edible and not even safe to put beside food. Baby breath flowers are ok – I checked online and asked in the flower shop before purchasing. I added a little bit of icing around the bottom of the cake to give it that finished look.

Edible Flower Cookies

Not only do these look beautiful but they happen to taste great too! To top it off they are very easy to make! First you need a sugar cookie recipe (I tried making these gluten free as well and found that the cookie was a tad too crumbly).

Materials

Sugar Cookie Dough

Edible Flowers (after searching high and low I found some at The Harvest Wagon)

1 egg beaten

Paint Brush (used for food only)

Directions

After you’ve made your sugar cookies you want to put them in the oven for about three quarters of the time the recipe suggests. Once they’ve come out of the oven and cooled down a bit you will need to beat your egg in a small bowl with a fork. Then using your paint brush you want to coat your cookie with a bit of egg. Then place a flower on top of the cookie and brush it with some more egg to get the flower to lay “somewhat flat”. Sprinkle with a bit of sugar and voila! Put them back in the oven for the remainder time but do keep an eye on them. If the flowers burn they will turn brown and won’t be soooo purtty!
